This website publishes general information about hot water systems: how heat pump, gas, electric and solar compare, what they cost to run, servicing and repairs, rebates, and what is involved in replacing one. It also takes enquiries from people who need work done.

General information only

The guides here are written as general information, not as advice about your particular system or property. What suits one house is wrong for the next, and nothing here replaces a licensed tradesperson looking at the actual installation.

Safety and compliance

Hot water systems are pressurised, heated appliances connected to gas or mains electricity. Work on them is licensed work in New South Wales for good reason. Do not attempt installation, gas work, electrical work or relief valve replacement yourself, and treat anything here as background reading rather than instructions.

Where a guide mentions a standard or a regulation, check the current requirement with the relevant authority. Standards are revised, and a page can fall out of date before you read it.
