What this site is for
Hot water is invisible until the morning it is not. By then most people have a few hours to make a decision that sets their energy bill for the next decade, which is a bad way to choose anything.
Guidance, and a pointer to the people who do the work
This site publishes plain guidance on hot water systems around Lake Macquarie: how heat pump, gas, electric and solar compare on running cost, what the federal and NSW rebates cover, when a repair is worth doing and when it is throwing money at a tank that is already finished, and what actually happens during a changeover.
What it does not do is the work. Installation, repairs and servicing are licensed trades, and when you need those we point you to Hogan Hot Water & Air Conditioning, who cover Lake Macquarie and the Hunter.
How the guides are written
The guides stick to what is generally true about the systems themselves rather than making promises about any particular job. Where something depends on your house, your roof, your gas connection or your tariff, they say so instead of pretending there is one answer.
There are no prices on this site. Hot water quotes move with the system, the site conditions, the electrical or gas work involved and whichever rebates apply, and a number published here would be wrong for most readers by the time they read it.
The area
Lake Macquarie covers a lot of ground, from Toronto and Warners Bay through Glendale, Cardiff, Belmont, Swansea and Morisset. Housing stock varies a great deal across it, and so does what makes sense: an older brick home with an existing gas connection is a different problem from a newer build with roof space and no gas at all.
